The Arabic Department has a legacy and tradition as old as the College itself. Afzal Ul Ulama Preliminary and B.A. Afzalul Ulama programmes, the pioneer programmes, got approved by Madras University in 1945. These programmes were approved by Kerala University in 1957 and later by the University of Calicut when it was established in 1968. The department became the first Postgraduate Department among the Arabic Colleges when MA Post Afzal Ul Ulama programme has begun in 1984. Another undergraduate programme, BA Functional Arabic, was also added in 2014.

In its seven decades of dedicated service, the department is able to produce outstanding and eminent personalities with high profile. Apart from providing importance in advanced techniques of translation, these programmes concentrate on Classical, Medieval and Modern Arabic Literature. They also develop confidence in the students to attain an excellent career. The department has gained the status of PG & Research Department in 2019.

The major objective of the department is to contribute effectively in the field of research that concerns Arabic language and literature. The department is indebted to create an atmosphere that helps the stakeholders to achieve specialization in Arabic language and its various aspects. It also facilitates the students with opportunities to collaborate with scholars in Arabic language and literature all around the world for developing their academic career. Well equipped classrooms, language lab, and other facilities of the department enable the faculty and the students to realize the objectives of department.

The Curriculum of B.A. Afzalul Ulama has been designed keeping in view the role of Arabic as a major language of international communication in the present world scenario. A multi-focal academic programme, this U.G. Programme aims at equipping the student with Arabic Language and its literature, classical literatures, media studies designed to open up a wide spectrum of career avenue in a fast evolving knowledge society

The Curriculum of B.A. Functional Arabic has been designed keeping in view the role of Arabic as a major language of international communication and trade in the present world scenario. This Programme aims to enable the students develop skills in communication and phonetics, and proficiency in Arabic language, journalism, media, informatics etc.

The Curriculum of M.A. Post Afzalul Ulama in Arabic has been designed keeping in view the role of Arabic as a major language of international communication in the present world scenario. A multi-focal academic programme with practical experiences, Post Graduate Programme aims at equipping the student with excellence in Arabic Language and Literature to master them in teaching Arabic Language and Literature in a fast developing knowledge society

The curriculum of B.Com with Islamic Finance has been designed to develop a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Commerce and Finance and to equip the students with the knowledge and specialization in Commerce, Trade, Business, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Advertising, Law, Environment Management, Communication Technology, Human Resource Management and Islamic Finance.
